A New Business Checklist That Goes Beyond Filing the Paperwork

Receiving formation documents can be an important milestone, but it is not a complete launch plan. Divide the work into legal setup, finances, operations, and customer delivery so that a filing does not obscure the remaining decisions.
The SBA's launch resources cover registration, tax identifiers, permits, banking, and insurance as separate steps. Use the appropriate agency's current instructions for each task rather than assuming a formation service has completed everything.
Build a small tracking sheet with the responsible person, required document, deadline, and confirmation for each item. Add practical operational tasks such as invoicing, records, supplier arrangements, and customer support. The list should match your actual business, not a generic template sold to every founder.
Schedule a follow-up review after launch to check renewals and unresolved questions. Obtain tax and legal advice where needed. A documented process gives you a better chance of finding omissions before they interfere with customers, finances, or the next stage of growth.
