A remote-work listing can look convincing while providing little evidence about who is hiring. Before sharing sensitive information, confirm that the company and vacancy can be found through channels independent of the listing.

The FTC's job-scam guidance explains how fake opportunities can seek money or personal information from applicants. Treat unexpected contact as something to verify rather than proof that your application has been selected.

Our suggested verification starts with the employer's official careers page and contact details. Compare the role, location requirements, and recruiter identity. Ask questions about the interview process and responsibilities, and look closely at messages that push you to act immediately.

Keep early conversations focused on the role and your qualifications. Do not send funds or private account information simply to secure an interview. If the opportunity cannot be independently confirmed, pause before providing more data, and report suspected fraud through appropriate channels.
