A low airfare can be attractive while the trip's total cost remains unclear. Compare the fare you can actually use, including the bags, seats, and flexibility your itinerary requires.

The U.S. Department of Transportation provides guidance on refunds for canceled or significantly changed flights under specified conditions. Do not confuse those rights with an airline's voluntary change policy or the restrictions of your selected fare.

Our suggested booking comparison records the final total, baggage allowance, seat-selection charges, connection time, and change conditions. Save the fare rules before purchase. If booking through an intermediary, ask who will handle a change or refund request.

A cheap ticket with awkward restrictions may still fit a firm travel plan, but it should be a deliberate choice. Verify the route and dates in the final confirmation and check the airline's current instructions for your booking. Travel conditions can change, so review them close to departure as well.
