A nightly room price is a starting point, not a complete travel budget. Compare hotels using the same dates, room type, number of guests, and cancellation conditions, then record the amount you would pay for the full stay.

Our suggested worksheet includes taxes, mandatory charges, parking, breakfast, and any booking membership. If a travel deal involves a recurring membership or trial, FTC subscription guidance is a useful reminder to inspect renewal terms.

Ask whether you pay the hotel or the booking service, which currency is used, and how changes are handled. Keep a record of the rate conditions rather than relying on the room photograph or a percentage discount. Check whether a cheaper room includes different restrictions.

Before paying, review the final confirmation for dates and guest names. Decide what flexibility is worth to you instead of comparing refundable and nonrefundable rates as if they were identical. The goal is a clearer choice, not an assumption that the lowest displayed nightly rate is always best.
